In the spirit of the holiday season, Zulu Alpha Kilo called upon the elves at Thinkingbox to help parents preserve the magic of Christmas for their children. Our workshop developed and designed a wondrous AR app featuring old Saint Nick himself and a chance to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. With the Kringl app, users are able to record a 10 second video of their home then select one of 5 Santa video overlays. To achieve true seamless realism, users can scale and adjust the Santa overlay matching him to the lighting of the home video.
These Santa-sighting videos can then be shared with friends and family through social media to prove to everyone that Santa has been seen and is in fact real. But the most impactful feature of the app is the opportunity for users to make a charitable donation to Make-A-Wish Canada in the hopes of keeping the magic of Christmas and childhood dreams alive. The Kringl app received a number of awards including a silver Promo Award for Most Innovative Idea or Concept, an FWA award for Mobile Site of The Day and a Webby Award for Augmented Reality.
